Statement
Five wooden panels are carved and painted with circles recalling the moon or sun and relief resembling terrain. Bright areas remain within dark surfaces, bringing together forms that suggest landscapes and forms that cannot be placed in a specific location.
I associate the dark areas with anxiety about losing people and things that matter to me, and the bright areas with gratitude for their presence now. Even before any loss has occurred, imagining its possibility draws my attention to presences I ordinarily take for granted.
Light and dark occupy the same wooden surfaces. Rather than waiting for anxiety to disappear before recognising what matters, the work considers how we relate to what is here while living with that anxiety.
